The big news that came out of Animania Sydney for the Australian Cosplay community was that next year Australia will be represented in the World Cosplay Summit. Exact details are still to be revealed but a few things are known. A representative will be chosen from each of the mini Animania's in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne and the Saturday of the main Sydney Animania and then those cosplayers will head off against each other for the right to go to the World Cosplay Summit. Representatives will be required to compete in pairs and perform a skit. Details such as whether new costumes are required for the head off, who is doing the judging and what expenses will be covered are still to be revealed. There has been a mixed reaction to this announcement so far from the people that heard it but as far as I am concerned if handled responsibly it can help and promote the Australian cosplay community. Full Animania and Manifest reports will be coming soon. UPDATE According to Wakaleo (who is organising the Australian leg) over at the Cosplay.com forums the judges will be the same for all events. Also as Animania Sydney is 3 weeks after the WCS the Australian's chosen won't be competing until 2009. At the preselection events they may also chose more than just the winner to enter the final on the Sunday of Animania if they think the cosplayers are good enough so that at least 15 duos compete on the Sunday. More information will be coming to the Animania website ([link]) when things are finalised. The forum thread can be found here: [link]
